The Best Adventure Vacations Are Spread throughout the Globe

The first question before you pick your adventure destination is whether to go alone. No two people will ever agree exactly. No matter how close your friend is to you, at least once in your life, go it alone. Do what you want to do when you want to do it. No restrictions. But interact with strangers. Meet people. Dance and sing in pubs and in the streets. Find new friends. When you travel, do it slowly. Don't whip down the Autobahn or the M5 at 120 kph. Walk. Ride a bicycle. Drift along in a kayak. Ride a horse. Look at the world around you and immerse yourself in the moment. If you can spend a month instead of two weeks in the Hebrides, think of the people you would meet and the talks you would have, the memories you would save up for the rest of your life. This article will look at some of the best adventure vacations throughout the world.

1 - Torres Del Paine National Park, Chile

At the southern end of Chile lies a wild land of mountains and glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, and grasslands. Looking like the entrance to a fantasy world, granite towers soar into the sky with a green lake at their feet. The hotels near and in the park are excellent. You can stay in a yurt or an estancia (ranch) if you want to travel around on horseback. You can drive through the park. But walking the trail to the base of the towers is a lot more personal and memorable. The weather is unpredictable, but that's part of the adventure as is the wildlife.

2 - The SW Coast Path - United Kingdom

Stretching 630 miles along the coast from Somerset to Dorset, the path wanders up and down. Over cliffs and beaches, through villages and fields, past lighthouses and St. Michael's Mount, and Tintagel, the adventures it offers are innumerable. It generally takes more than a month to walk the entire length, but you can pick your favorite sections. Your views will depend on the time of year but in reality, any time is wonderful.

3 - Rafting the Grand Canyon

No other crevice in the earth is as huge and magnificent. You can see the Canyon up close and personal from the rushing water of the Colorado River at its base. Glide past towering cliffs of vermillion and gold. Run the 67 rapids in white water adventures. Spend almost two weeks on the water. Explore the side canyons. Be surprised by the deer and eagles, bighorn sheep, foxes, and condors. Get to know a group of strangers until you're as close as family, sometimes life long friends. Come to the Canyon, the grandest canyon.

4 - The Aurora Borealis in Lapland

Lapland is the northernmost part of Finland, the land of reindeer and sleds and snow. The Northern Lights are only seen during the winter in Lapland because the summer days last nearly 24 hours. This is the Land of the Midnight Sun. But deep in the winter between 10PM and 2AM, the lights come out to play. At least when it isn't snowing. Vacations in Lapland can be everything from luxury glass igloos to humble accommodations. There are dogsled treks and festivals during the day along with skiing, reindeer farms, and trips to native villages.

5 - The Galapagos Islands

Take a cruise through the archipelago by catamaran with a small group. Hike the islands. Walk with giant turtles. Snorkeling and diving, sea and river kayaking, horseback riding, mountain biking are all available in the islands that Darwin walked. It's a birder's paradise. Play with the seals. This is the ultimate back-to-Nature trip.

6 - Motor biking the Ho Chi Minh Trail

From Hanoi to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) via the Ho Chi Minh Trail isn't a straight line nor a single road. You'll have to pick your path. But this offers you immense opportunities to see the Vietnamese countryside, meet the people, and experience the culture in a land finally at peace. Take the byways for a trip of a lifetime.
